April 21 street date. The Prodigy have always cut a solitary path through the noise-scapes of electronic dance music. They’ve dropped five epoch defining studio albums and delivered unforgettable live performances that have taken electronic beats into unchartered territories. Throughout this time they’ve remained resolutely focused on their own vision, inspiring legions of artists along the way. The Day Is My Enemy is probably the most British sounding album you’ll hear this year. Not British in the flag waving jingoistic sense, but in a way that understands that the nighttime spaces of urban Britain are a multi-hued cacophony of cultures. If Invaders Must Die was the sound of the rusted urban sprawl decaying like an open wound in the British countryside, then The Day is My Enemy is about the angry humanity existing in the decay of the urban nightmare.
April 13 street date. Expanding on the general shape of the project, Liam says: "this album is equally aggressive as the last
records, but in a different way." A musician, songwriter and studio maestro, Howlett is as rigorous and righteously Up
For It as he was when he formed his 28-years-young band. He explains that, as ever, the new songs "are built to play
live. That's the one thing that brings everything together. I couldn't write this music unless it has that outlet on stage.
That helps write the music. This is what I do it for: the live thing. And until we feel like we can't do it, or the buzz goes,
we won't stop." It's that sense of do-or-die commitment that is reflected in the album title. "To us, NO TOURISTS is
ultimately about escapism and the want and need to be derailed. Don?t be a tourist? there is always more danger and
excitement to be found if you stray from the set path."
April 23 street date. RECORD STORE DAY release. In the mid-2000s, as Prodigy began to map out the follow up to his solo release "H.N.I.C.", he worked up some new material with long-time collaborator The Alchemist. Material that was meant to be a mixtape. Just a little something to keep the fans interested until "H.N.I.C. Part 2". The resulting recordings were so high caliber, so tapped into the very essence of Prodigy’s Mobb Deep pedigree, just so damn good - that a commercial release of the material was inevitable - as "Return Of The Mac". Backed by classic Blaxploitation style samples from The Alchemist, Prodigy paints a picture with his words. A picture of the rough and tumble New York of his upbringing. When issued in 2007, many considered it his best effort in at least a decade, Issued on vinyl for the first time ever, this opaque red pressing is housed in a gatefold jacket and exclusive to Record Store Day 2022.
May 20 street date. When it comes to authentic, ride-or-die hip-hop, few crews have as much resonance as Mobb Deep. Featuring two double-threat MCs who also produced - Havoc and the sadly-departed Prodigy - the crew changed the hardcore rap game in 1995 with their sophomore classic "The Infamous". After multiple Mobb Deep platters in the 90s, Prodigy entered the 2000s as a solo artist with force, rolling over a stomping, piano-freaked backdrop laced by producer The Alchemist, with "Keep It Thoro". "H.N.I.C." was Prodigy's first solo album, but it is perhaps his best. Among fans he will never be forgotten, for his skills, his storytelling and his no-B.S. approach to the art of MCing.
