July 17 street date. Yaeji has announced a vinyl release for her new mixtape "What We Drew". This latest project, which was released digitally in April, is the first full-length body of work from the NYC-via-Seoul based electronic producer, DJ, and vocalist. It is available on limited edition transparent yellow vinyl with obi strip wrap-around and translated lyric sheet. "What We Drew", which is produced and written entirely by Yaeji, draws on her appreciation for her community, family, friends and the support she's felt through a period of growth that displays her newfound laser-focused creative vision. An artist who many pegged as the one to watch, Yaeji now aims beyond expectations, with an eye toward the worlds of music production, visual art, game design and more. And as Pitchfork exclaimed Yaeji has found, "clarity in vulnerability, in the pendulum swing of her humanity".
February 11 street date. NYC-based producer and artist Yaeji, in collaboration with Ohhyuk, founder of the Seoul based indie band Hyukoh offer a limited 7" featuring "29" and "Year To Year". Starting as sketches exchanged between the two artists, the songs took full shape when they connected for studio sessions in Seoul. "29" sees Yaeji rapping in her signature, trance-like style over Ohhyuk's indie-influenced pulsating drums and Bossa guitar, while "Year To Year'' is a more cinematic indie affair with a drum-n-bass inspired breakdown. These latest songs see Yaeji once again exploring the boundaries of pop; it's Ohhyuk influence of his distinctive alt-indie that drives the single home.
Please note new street date: July 1. Here is a collection of recordings by Kathy Yaeji Lee, originally released as a pair of EPs on March 31 and November 3 of 2017, remastered for a belated vinyl edition for the first time. A lot has been said and repeated about the interiority of this club music - how the joyful tremor of the "Raingurl" refrain holds hands with such soft and doubtful verses. How special it is that house music so of New York can contain storytelling cultivated so far away. That repetition is born of people all over the world going out, and staying in, with this music as a compass; songs that define so many late night hangs for crews of friends, singalongs in DJ booths, contemplative 5am walks home from the club. Yaeji wrote this music while going out nearly every night of the week to DJ and support her own NYC community of friends at their turns behind the decks. These tracks originated from explorations in dancefloor anonymity, growing from seeds planted by sharing her first musical experiments online.
April 7 street date. NYC-via-Seoul artist Yaeji, whose introspective, genre-pushing tracks have made her a global icon occupying a space all her own, presents her debut album, "With A Hammer", arriving via XL Recordings. The 13-track full-length from the producer, vocalist, DJ, visual-artist and creative director is an exploration of shapeshifting sonics - blending her dance music roots with Korean indie rock, electronica and pop from the 1990s and early 2000s. Yaeji has excavated her inner world with full force, smashing everything in order to build it back up into the true visions of her dreams.
