September 23 street date. The voice which, even if absent from the score, insinuates itself between the two hands of a pianist playing Mozart. In this music, all is dialogue, mingled avowals and passions, on the threshold of the opera house. All Mozart's forms are nurtured by the same source, that of vocal melody. The keyboard enters into dialogue with the soloist. And then we leave the world of the aria for that of the concerto, unless it be an imaginary sonata. Directed from the piano by Philippe Cassard, the Concerto No.22 is a piece of "wordless theatre", composed at the period of Le nozze di Figaro, which portrays first drama, then meditation, and finally carefree joy. The divine spectacle continues with the Fantasia K475, which foreshadows the worlds of Beethoven and Schubert, with their cries and whispers and things unsaid. Let us complete these imaginary dialogues with the finest of the sonatas for piano four hands, K497. Two voices in unison, enamored of beauty.

September 16 street date. The third release from Canopy features the title track from a deep Afro funk 7” originally released on private press in Benin in the 1980s. Electrifying cosmic voodoo disco grooves, heavy bass pulsing, blistering horns and spooky organ riffs set the tone on this transcendental piece over which floats the beautifully mesmerising harmonies of vocalist Tomede Ehue. A modernised tropical disco remix from bosq & an acid-afro version from Sam Redmore revitalise this slice of mysterious dance floor fire and propel it into the present day.
Available now. New double 180g vinyl LP edition. Best known for being Anderson .Paak's live band, The Free Nationals have toured the world meeting countless artists who inspire them. Free Nationals means the first people of America, indigenous to the land before Columbus came. Staying indigenous to the funk, The Free Nationals wanted to tribute their inspirations such as Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock, and Al Green by incorporating musicianship while pioneering musical euphoria for a new generation. The album features friends they've met along their musical journey including the late Mac Miller, Syd, Anderson .Paak, Kali Uchis, T.I., JID, Westside Gunn, Conway, Chronixx, Daniel Caesar, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Kadhja Bonet, MIKNNA, Benny Sings, Callum Connor, T. July 6 street date. INTERNATIONAL HELLO is the perfection of California psychedelic rock in all its ecstatic glory. Grady Runyan's guitar playing is as fantastic, spacey and heavy as ever, as is Scott Derr's always-pertinent bass throb. Drummer and singer Rubin Fiberglass is just perfect as a screaming maniac who can actually keep time while Doug Pearson's electronics consistently enhance the dominant power-trio rock that swirls in the sky like some kind of creation myth. In case you don't recognize the names, these guys were the prime movers and shakers behind the band MONOSHOCK. LP includes free digital download coupon.
Available now. Dark Entries Editions is honored to celebrate the 30th anniversary 'Dancing Therapy' by International Music System, often abbreviated as I.M.S. In 1983 MAURIZIO CAVALIERI and GIORGIO STEFANI, the same musicians who brought you 'Spacer Woman' by CHARLIE, created INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SYSTEM in Vicenza, Italy. Under this moniker, the two would release a pair of albums of stylized and syncopated electronic dance songs showcasing the still-evolving advancement of computer and keyboard-generated music. 'Dancing Therapy' was released as a 12" single in 1984 on the Cavalieri’s own Mr Disc Records. It utilized the Roland TR-808, Yamaha DX7 and Linn Drum as the main percussion. Giorgio would hit the two sides of a metal triangle with a drum stick, creating the high pitched tone break throughout the song. Guest vocalist REBECCA MCLAIN, an American ballet dancer, sings about getting lost in music as a means to escape from your troubles. The single anticipated the beats and sounds of Freestyle music as well as influencing the early House scene due to radio airplay on Chicago’s WBMX. On the B-side is 'Love Games', an electro dance song with breakbeats in the vein of Afrika Bambaataa that features Giorgio on vocals. Both songs are remastered for vinyl by GEORGE HORN at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket with original artwork featuring an iconic photo with each band member in side profile view. Each copy includes a post card insert with lyrics and liner notes.
May 13 street date. Non-returnable CD. "Safe at Home" is a legendary 1968 album by country rock group The International Submarine Band, led by the then-unknown 21-year-old Gram Parsons. The group's only album release, "Safe at Home" featured four of Parsons' original compositions rounded out by six covers of classic country and rock and roll songs made famous by the likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Merle Haggard, and Hank Snow. Described as "hippie and hillbilly in equal measure", the album helped to forge the burgeoning country rock movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Gram Parsons, onboard with the Byrds only for their 1968 LP Sweetheart of the Rodeo, would find fame a year later with the Flying Burrito Bros. Equally fascinating today is Parsons' original combo, the International Submarine Band, whose country-rock synthesis laid the groundwork for the down-home stylings by the Byrds and Burritos. The ISB cut a pair of ultra-rare singles for Lee Hazlewood's LHI imprint - Blue Eyes/Luxury Liner and Miller's Cave/I Must Be Somebody Else You've Known - and Sundazed takes great pride in releasing the original mono masters as a stunning, four-song EP to document the band that first delivered Gram Parsons' vision to the world.

April 15 street date. Jupiter & Okwess International's international debut album Hotel Univers takes you right into the heart and onto the streets of modern day Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a politically and economically troubled country. Band leader Jupiter Bokondji is the charismatic and outstanding representative of the innovative scene of street musicians in Kinshasa, a scene which became internationally well-known through the success of Staff Benda Bilili, a band who they share close ties with. His idea is to reactivate the forgotten rhythms and melodies of the Congo, by injecting the urban groove of the city. When Jupiter wants time off from the daily hustle on the streets of Kinshasa, he rents a room at Hotel Univers. There he can hide from the noise of the streets and seek new inspiration. Many of the ideas in his songs were formed between his room and the bar where he drinks whiskey and meets the characters that roam the streets of Kinshasa at night. In 1974, as a young boy, he left the Congo to go to East Germany with his father who was appointed executive assistant for the Congo's embassy in Germany. There he spent his adolescence and discovered Europe and its vibrant music scene, including artists such as The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple and James Brown. He set up his own rock band called Der Neger with fellow young Berliners. Their sound was a strange cocktail of mongo percussions and Zeppelin-esque guitar. Then in 1990 he founded his own band: Okwess International. The band developed a vision of a new Congolese sound experimenting with the musical heritage of a nation with more than 450 different ethnicities. In early 2004, Jupiter met two French travellers, Renaud Barret and Florent de la Tullaye. The connection was immediate, so much so that Barret and de la Tullaye returned to record the songs of Okwess International and other groups surrounding Jupiter, such as Staff Benda Bilili. Jupiter's Dance, a film documenting this musical exploration, was released in 2007. The film became his international introduction and Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame worked with him on several projects including the electronic album DRC Music - Kinshasa One Two (Warp). Albarn also invited him to perform at the 2012 Africa Express tour in the UK. Jupiter and his band also toured the world with Amadou & Mariam.
July 23 street date. Recordings of Mauritania's first modern musical group with some never before released material. Formed in the 1960s, the Orchestre National combined folk instrumentation with brass sections and electric guitars. Dreamy and hypnotic sessions are reminiscent of other post-colonial West African orchestras, but diverge with experiments in Mauritanian classical tradition. Like many of the Orchestras created in post-independence Africa, the National Orchestra of Mauritania was created as an idealogical symbol. To the Mauritanian classical music, with its rigid and complex modal system, the group unabashedly added electric guitars and brass sections. Traditional epics were adapted with contemporary sounds. In 1973, the band released their only official recording -- a 7" containing two live recordings from the Maison de Jeune (with the president in attendance). Five hundred copies were pressed in Beirut, Lebanon, and brought back to Mauritania where they were quickly distributed for free until no copies remained. All but vanished into obscurity in the ensuing decades of military dictatorship, these recordings slated for destruction were salvaged during a 1978 coup d'état. Comes with extensive liner notes.
October 21 street date. Birthed from the creative and genre-bending New York DIY scene, L.O.T.I.O.N. Multinational Corporation has become one of the most exciting bands of the underground - gaining notoriety for their unique brand of industrial cyberpunk and intense live shows. Masterminded by visual artist Alexander Heir, the group has gained recognition internationally for their fiercely political lyricism and striking visual aesthetic. Blending noisy electronics with live instrumentation, the band draws inspiration from the harsh minimal electronic music of Detroit and the thrashing riffs of hardcore punk. Following their last LP "World Wide W.E.B." from 2019, "W.A.R. In The Digital Realm" delves even further into their techno-dystopian universe fusing elements of D-Beat with EBM and 90s Rave.
